Venkatraman Ramakrishnan becomes the ninth person of Indian origin or connection to win the coveted Nobel Prize. Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize, when he was honoured for his contribution to literature in 1913. Ramakrishnan was in India last year, where he visited the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
